I don't know if it's threaded on or sonically welded or what. To keep using the stock knob, you need that plastic piece cuz in addition to letting the knob press down the rod, it also keeps the knob from falling out. There's trapezoidal piece of plastic on the rod that fits into the pushbutton of the stock knob. I don't know about the lock mechanism rod itself though. The outside chrome piece you can probably just cut with a hacksaw (tape around the cut with a couple of layers of transparent tape and saw through the tape). Well, you could use a pipe cutter and just cut the outer tube (not the chrome piece which I think is just a plastic sleeve, but the actual main outer tube). ![]()
